Westville, Durban

Westville is an area near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, which is situated 20 km inland from the Durbancity centre. Formerly an independent municipality governed by a Town Council, it now forms part of the eThekwiniMetropolitan Municipality, which also includes Durban. Cowies Hill, Pinetown

Cowies Hill is a small upmarket residential suburb of Pinetown in Durban, South Africa. Its eponymous hill is a major feature in the Comrades Marathon which is held between Durban and Pietermaritzburg every year. Cowies Hill was originally established as farm land and was inhabited by the mayor of Pinetown and his family due to its position overlooking Pinetown. It is situated approximately 15 km off the coast line. Cowies Hill was the site of a farm known as Buffelskop (Buffalo Head) owned by William Cowie in the latter part of the 19th-century.

New Germany, Pinetown

New Germany is a town situated just inland from Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It has been incorporated firstly into Pinetown and now into eThekwini. It was established in 1848 by a party of 183 German immigrants who settled on a cotton growing estate named Westville after the lieutenant-governor of Natal Martin West. The cotton was not successful and the settlers turned to growing vegetables and flowers. It was established in 1848 and became a municipality in 1960. Originally Neu-Deutschland and subsequently translated, the name refers to settlement of the area by German immigrants in 1848.

Pinetown is a small city just inland from Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Pinetown is situated 16 km west of Durban at an elevation of 1,000 to 1,300 feet (305 to 395 m). Today Pinetown is easily accessible from any of a number of major highways in the area, and it is largely due to this fact that industry in Pinetown has increased immensely in recent years.
